NITEROI, Brazil (AP) – The fashion world has flocked to Brazil, defying an outbreak of the Zika virus, political chaos and an economic meltdown afflicting the country to attend a runway show by revered French house Louis Vuitton.

Around 500 guests, including fashion royalty flown in from New York and Paris and A-listers Jaden Smith and Catherine Deneuve, attended Saturday’s Cruise 2017 collection.

Models in sporty looks pounded the catwalk at a futuristic art museum in Rio de Janeiro’s sister city of Niteroi as residents in nearby buildings gathered on their balconies to take in the scene.

The show comes just months ahead of Rio’s ascension to the center of the world stage as host of the Summer Olympics even as Brazil is immersed in a deep recession and profound political crisis.
